In Vedic astrology your Moon sign (Janma Rashi) is the sign the Moon occupied when you were born. It is usually different from the Sun sign used in Western astrology, because Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac.

Why is my Vedic Moon sign different from my Western sign?
Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac and Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which is about 24 degrees behind. Because of this, many people's Vedic signs are one sign earlier.
Which time zone should I use for the birth time?
Use the local clock time at the birthplace, as written on the birth certificate. The place you choose supplies the time zone.
What if I do not know my exact birth time?
The Moon sign is usually unaffected unless the Moon changed sign that day, but the Lagna can change. Treat the Lagna as uncertain without a reliable birth time.
